Rauw Alejandro
In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of the space of six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music did not just draw interest back to the genre, but as well to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs mainly in Spanish in 2016, compared to two in 2015. But during the peak of Despacito's fame in 2017, there were 19 mainly Spanish songs that were included in the top 100. Then in 2020 it was 41. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, numerous famous artists began collaborating with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) as well as Madonna collaborated with Maluma for the release of Medellin. Some reggaeton artists expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. However, a brand newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the evolution and development of reggaeton. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other forms.
